Nori Taco Recipe

October 7, 2022/in Blog /by Guy Vaknin

In the same way that sushi somehow always feels sophisticated, there is something inherently comforting in a taco night. It is what first brought major popularity to the idea of the taco truck. Now, backed by the brilliant minds of the Beyond Sushi kitchens, enjoy the best of both worlds with this completely vegan nori taco recipe!

Since skyrocketing to fame on Sharktank, Beyond Sushi built an empire right in the heart of NYC. From here, we’ve spread the value of a healthy, plant-based lifestyle all over the country and beyond, helping diners all over put the value of a hearty, cruelty-free meal to work in their own households.

In the city, Beyond Sushi is ready to serve lunch and dinner to anyone looking for a delicious meal.. Whether vegan, carnivore, or something in between, diners are sure to love any of the options available on our full menu. For added convenience, place an order for pickup or delivery today!

Nori Taco Inspiration

The key to combining the two classic dishes from such seemingly different cultures lies in selecting the best parts of both.

By wrapping all the traditionally seafood-inspired ingredients in nori, this taco maintains all the comforting structure and fun of a taco. Meanwhile, the generous helpings of decadent flavors on the inside heighten the experience with an Asian-fusion flair.

At Beyond Sushi, we keep our flavors as authentic as possible while staying true to our cruelty-free standard!

Stop by any of our stunning locations all over the city and enjoy samling our three vegan options: zalmon, jackfruit, or yuza-infused “tuna.” Each substitution is perfectly paired with an assortment of fresh veggies,  seasonings, and herbs to impress your taste buds!

Enjoy pairing the smooth, creamy flavor of a fresh avocado with spicy chili oil zalmon, or brighten your day with the unique pairings of mint and pickled cucumber alongside our authentic vegan “tuna.”

No matter how you take your nori taco, Beyond Sushi is ready with the options you need to stay full, stay inspired, and stay energized throughout your day with healthy, vegan meals.

Nori Taco Recipe

Once you’re confident you understand the flavors you’re looking for, it’s time to tackle this creative dinner option on your own! There’s no better place to start than this easy, delicious nori taco recipe.

As long as you use fresh ingredients, this recipe is a breeze to alter and fit your own design. Skip the rice for a more carb-friendly approach, or add red chili for a spicy kick. Whatever you choose, be sure to approach the project with creativity, curiosity, and a desire to learn.

Ingredients:

  • Seasoned sushi rice
  • Nori
  • Green onion
  • Avocado
  • Vegan cream cheese
  • Cucumber
  • Lettuce

Instructions:

  1. Start by laying your nori sheet on a flat surface. If the nori feels too stiff or crumbly to roll, wet the tips of your fingers and gently brush them across the inside surface of the nori.
  2. Using your hands, spread a thin layer of sushi rice across the middle of the nori. For a detailed description of how to season sushi rice, check out our article on vegan sushi!
  3. Thinly cut all remaining ingredients into long, thin strips. Carefully lay them across the center of your nori sheet as well.
  4. From here, you have two options: either cut the nori into easily foldable “taco” shapes or roll it into a loose, conical tube. By rolling it, you make it more likely for the somewhat fragile seaweed shell to remain together while still holding all your ingredients.

Bonus: Seasoned Soy Sauce

To really take this healthy treat to the next level, consider creating your own seasoned soy glaze for dipping!

In a pot, combine soy sauce, a pinch of brown sugar, a piece of fresh ginger, and the thick, leftover stem of the green onion left over from your nori taco. Place this mixture on the lowest possible heat setting, and allow it to evaporate until roughly one-third of the soy sauce is gone. Stir periodically.

From here, transfer your freshly seasoned soy sauce to a jar, and enjoy using it to flavor your rice, sushi, nori tacos, or soups in the weeks to come!
