Tips for Creating a Vegan Juicy Burger

The foundation of any juicy burger is the proper preparation and cooking techniques. Before exploring the top three best vegan burger recipes, take time to read through these tips to help ensure that the next vegan burger you’ll make will be your favorite.

Season Well

Your seasoning is the star of the show. Seasoning is what makes the difference between the average veggie burger and a burger that will impress everyone around – vegans and non-vegans alike.

Some of the best seasonings for burgers include garlic salt, paprika, onion powder, and, of course, salt and pepper.

You can also include less traditional seasonings to highlight the taste of your burger. Things like crushed walnuts, tamari, soy sauce, and finely chopped garlic add to the texture of your vegan burger. They can also elevate the flavors found in your base ingredients while creating a dish that is more meat-like all without the meat.

Make Your Burger “Meaty”

Without the meat of course!

While you want a juicy burger, you don’t want a wet burger. In fact, one of the biggest complaints about vegan burgers is that they tend to get a bit soggy.

The best way to prevent this is to reduce the amount of moisture in your burger without making it completely dry. It’s important to use flavorful ingredients like coconut aminos, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce, but it should always be done in moderation by keeping the overall texture and consistency of the burger patty in mind.

Cook Your Ingredients First

Whether it’s preparing your rice or sauteing your vegetables, cooking your ingredients before combining them is one of the best ways to ensure the most flavor in your burger. This gives you more control over how your seasonings are used and the texture you’re creating.

Cooking vegetables beforehand can also help reduce their water content, to create that “meaty” texture that everyone loves.

3 Vegan Burger Recipes

10 Ingredient Vegan Burger

On top of needing only 10 ingredients to make this mouth-watering patty, this vegan burger is also gluten- and soy-free, making it a great option for nearly everyone!

The foundation of this burger is brown rice, cashews, yellow onions, and shiitake mushrooms.

The yellow onions and shiitake mushrooms will be sauteed in olive oil before you add them to the cooked rice and cashews in a food processor.

In order to make this recipe soy-free, it uses coconut aminos in place of soy sauce. This dark sauce, along with paprika, oat flour, and miso paste, is combined with your patty foundation ingredients in the food processor. This helps introduce savory umami flavors while also providing the additional ingredients needed to hold the patty together when formed.

Miso is an incredible ingredient that is full of probiotics and great for gut health. Making these burgers full of health benefits.

Once the patty is shaped, sauteing it in avocado oil helps create an even sear and crisp outer layer while also ensuring each ingredient is perfectly incorporated.

While this recipe is rich in important vitamins and minerals on its own, as well as nutrients like protein and fiber, you can increase the health power of this burger by choosing nutrient-rich toppings. Tomatoes, pickles, and lettuce are popular classics!

Nutrition: fiber, magnesium, oleic acid, carotenoids, potassium, protein, vitamin B6

Black Bean Vegan Burger

When it comes to burgers, black beans are one of the most traditional vegan ingredients.

Rich in vitamin A, calcium, and folate and with an easy to customize texture, there’s a reason black beans are so popular.

After cooking your black beans as directed on the stovetop, you’ll mix them with a binder such as breadcrumbs, sautéed garlic and onion, and your favorite seasonings. From here, you can use either a food processor or fork to fully blend your ingredients.

After your ingredients combine, form your patties and pan-sear each burger in your choice of oil for the perfect, crispy texture that pairs well with every topping from fresh tomatoes to your favorite sauce.

Nutrition: Vitamin A, calcium, folate, fiber, antioxidants

Garden Burger

With a serving of vegetables in every patty, this garden burger recipe provides a healthy heap of nutrients while still maintaining that savory burger flavor.

This recipe begins much like your typical black bean burger. You’ll cook and drain your black beans and set them aside. At the same time, you’ll roast some of your favorite vegetables, such as mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, and onion with your choice of oil and garlic cloves.

All of these veggies combined with the black beans are a great source of nutrients. But black beans are a superfood with phytochemicals that protect your cells from damage, preventing cancer!

Once your vegetables have roasted and cooled, you’ll add them to your black beans alongside breadcrumbs (these will be your binder to make sure those delicious patties stay patties), spinach, and walnuts. Once everything is combined, transfer it to your food processor to create a moldable mixture for your patties.

To ensure you get the best shape for your veggies burgers, freeze them for one to two hours before cooking. Afterwards, the possibilities are endless: from the grill to the stovetop to the oven, you’ll be able to cook these vegan burger patties using your favorite method.

Nutrition: Fiber, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin B6, folate
